Eric Epstein is a New York based filmmaker, animator, and artist. His efforts as a music video director have received wide recognition, notably collaborating with Memory Tapes, Hauschka, and Chairlift. Recent live projections created for ambient & classical performances have served as an avenue to explore generative animation and natural textures.
Forest Gateway is a portal and threshold through Symphony Woods, drawing upon the ongoing collaboration between composer Caroline Polachek and visualist Eric Epstein, and incorporating physical elements from sculptor Brandon Ells. Polachek’s sounds – derived from CEP, her solo project exploring the resonance of since waves – create the foundation to inspire the visual interplay between projection and sculpture. Epstein’s visuals emulate abstracted reflections of water washing over Ells’s structure, a physical expression of the multifaceted nature of the forest. Collectively, the site-specific audiovisual installation sets attendees off on a soothing and reflective journey down the rabbit hole.
