ABOUT THE ARTIST

Hisham Bharoocha and 80881 are collaborators on the sound piece The Difference Between Difference and Difference Marked By Language. 80881’s self-recorded voice is the inner monologue of a person dealing with existential questions about gender identity. A soundscape created by Bharoocha gives an environment to 80881’s words. The soundscape and words waver with effects that symbolize self-doubt and questioning, but this doubt eventually subsides and gives way to clear-minded and confident expression. Bharoocha has had solo exhibitions at Snow Contemporary and Ginza Mitsukoshi in Tokyo and D’Amelio Terras in New York. 80881 has performed at Art Basel, Spring Break Art Fair, and MoMA PS1, among other places.
